FLEET DRIVER TRAINING
When a business has company-owned vehicles that will be driven by employees, several important responsibilities deserve extra attention. We have the experience to help you manage them.
A Class C driver’s license technically allows driving vehicles up to 40 feet long, passenger vans with a capacity of up to 15 people, and towing up to 10,000 pounds. But many typical drivers don’t have the skills to adapt directly from their personal car to being safe in an unfamiliar vehicle that you own. Extra weight, length, height or passengers pose new challenges, which may expose new risks for your company’s liability (if there’s a collision) or reputation (if your name is on a vehicle being driven poorly).
We offer several options for training employees who will drive your company vehicles, with the goal of maximizing safety and your public image while reducing risks. In collaboration with our clients, we tailor our training program to suit the specific requests and needs, using two training components:
CLASSROOM TRAINING
- 30-minute seminar - starts with a respectful review of “Ten Questions for Experienced Drivers.” This reinforces good habits that drivers may already have while exposing them to updates in laws, safe driving techniques and technology. Drivers are often surprised by new information on mirror adjustment, following distance, bike lanes, even the color of a yield sign. They will see a deployed airbag and learn more about safety equipment. We discuss issues and responsibilities that arise with the specific vehicles they will drive, including how their behavior is a reflection on your company with its name on the vehicle.
- 60-minute seminar – Includes the above and adds segments on passive safety, active safety, defensive driving and primary causes of collisions (and how to reduce them)
- 3-hour seminar – Includes all of the above in granular detail. Explains several key provisions in the California Vehicle Code with test questions, how to handle emergency driving situations, distracted driving issues, common driver errors, responsibilities in the aftermath of a collision, and a pre-trip inspection of your vehicle.
- These seminars are intended to be conducted at your place of business.
BEHIND-THE-WHEEL TRAINING
- Available in 30-minute or 60-minute sessions, one-on-one with each employee individually. After properly adjusting the seat and mirrors, we take a drive to reinforce the information from the classroom, enabling them to get a better feel for your vehicle in different situations. This may include parking lots, tight streets, maneuvering around corners, backing up, and highways. This training is conducted in your vehicle(s).
We receive very positive feedback from our training; drivers truly appreciate the new information they learn about being safe in your vehicle and how it will make them a better driver in their own car. Our clients include relationships for over 10 years with the largest limousine service in San Diego and a school for autistic children with a fleet of passenger vans.
